CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, has been awarded the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIMG), ‘Marketing Man of the Year’ 2019 Award. The awards ceremony took place on Saturday 14th November, 2020 at the Labadi Beach Hotel. Mr. Agyeman was recognized for the work he did marketing and branding Ghana as a preferred travel destination in West Africa using a focused approach to target potential travellers. Through 2019, he was the Coordinator of the ‘Year of Return’. The role he played was significant in strengthening Ghana’s position as a tourist destination in the global marketplace.
“Everybody at Ghana Tourism Authority, this is for you,” Mr. Agyeman said in his acceptance speech. He went on to thank the GTA Board and the GTA Board Chair, Madam Adelaide Ahwireng. “The Steering Committee of The Year of Return, and the Secretariat as also deserving of this award,” he continued. Finally he gave a special thanks to his wife and children.
Mr. Agyeman dedicated the award to His Excellency, President Nana Akufo Addo for being the vision bearer of the ‘Year of Return’ campaign and the way it’s pushed Ghana to the forefront in tourism.The success of the ‘Year of Return’ helped catapult Ghana’s status and gave the country a global platform unlike any previous campaigns to promote Ghana.
This year as Ghana embarks on the 10-year initiative for ‘Beyond the Return’, Mr. Agyeman is the Coordinator for ‘Beyond the Return’ and plans to put in the same efforts he did for last year’s campaign. Despite the pandemic, he is optimistic that plans to forge ahead will bring positive results.
